The EU’s Eastern Partnership (EaP) summit took place in Warsaw on 29–30 September, without Turkey being either invited or represented. This is no wonder since Turkey is not a member to the partnership, yet, it is worth some examination taking into consideration that Turkey is a potential member of the EU in the process of negotiating its membership on the one hand, and is neighbouring – is practically lying between – the countries of the EaP, on the other. What is more, Turkey is a member of other regional initiatives which involve most countries of the EaP, first of all of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). While Turkey usually keeps a low profile over the EaP, it has all the motives to keep a close watch of what is happening there.
